Communication about Reopening Lakeshore for Physical Services

Posted Friday 10 July 2020

Dear Lakeshore Family & Friends,

Many of you will be aware that the Quebec Government have now permitted the reopening of places of worship with numerous restrictions. Therefore, we as a Staff and Board wanted to update you regarding our current plan.

We would all love to be together in person again soon! But while the Government of Quebec has technically allowed reopening, the restrictions on reopening have removed most of the positive aspects of meeting together as compared to worshipping via online live-streaming. We want our worship services to be uplifting and encouraging, not disappointing or frustrating.

Quebec is currently the only province in Canada that has not published a guide for the reopening of places of worship. We are, however, aware of the following restrictions:

• The maximum is NOT 50, rather the number of people that can be seated while remaining properly distanced. This number may be up to a maximum of 50 depending on the size of the building.
• Entrance and Exit should be separate doors allowing for ‘one-way’ traffic.
• Full cleaning of the building is required after each use.
• There should be no singing.
• Face masks should be worn by all attending.
• There should be no passing of offering plates, communion, connect cards, etc. and no serving of coffee or food within the building.
• There should be no children’s services.

Additionally, we have recently been informed by the Dorval Police Department that we can only gather up to 10 people on the church front lawn for meetings at present. As you can see, this severely restricts our capacity to host ‘normal’ services.

The above-mentioned restrictions, alongside the ongoing health concerns regarding the spread of COVID-19, and taking into consideration the feedback we’ve received from the church survey, have resulted in our decision to continue providing our services online at this moment.

The church building will therefore remain closed for public services at this time.

We understand that this maybe disappointing for some of you, however we believe that at this time it is the correct, godly and wise decision. The safety of our church family and our community is paramount, while the safe reopening of our church building in the near future remains our top priority at this time.

We shall be constantly monitoring the situation and plan to reopen as soon as it is feasible to do so. We are currently considering some alternative options to safely gather members of the congregation in small numbers during the month of August. Please continue to stand with us in prayer for a rapid and sustained progress in combating this devastating virus as we hope to make concrete plans for reopening our building in September.

We encourage you to share this message with others in our community and to continue to connect and actively participate in our online services and ministries every Sunday.

On a more positive note, we have been delighted to see how God has used our online services to reach far more people than we can normally physically accommodate on Sunday mornings! We trust that God will continue to use Lakeshore’s online presence as well as our physical services in the future to reach more people with the good news of Jesus Christ!

Thank you all for your support, encouragement, patience and dedication during this unique situation.

With love and prayers,
Pastor Dan Price
